MIAMI – June 10, 2022 – Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney is pleased to partner with Belen Jesuit Preparatory School, Our Lady of Lourdes Academy and St. Brendan High School for a one-day externship program, which gives students the opportunity to shadow, meet and learn from Buchanan attorneys and leadership.

During the one-day program, students got to listen to 15-minute presentations from Buchanan’s C-Suite team members including Joseph Dougherty, Nolan Kurtz, Lloyd Freeman, Danielle Rosetti, Bill Ryan and Greg Miller. Following presentations from firm management, students heard from attorneys across a diverse array of Buchanan practice areas including Corporate, Litigation, Immigration, Real Estate and Finance. The goal of these presentations and subsequent shadowing opportunities was to expose students to unique career opportunities not only in the legal industry but also in business management.

"Thank you to Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney for offering this opportunity to our students. Having an experience like this helps them engage with other like-minded peers as well as explore a career interest throughout their high school years. This opportunity with Buchanan is only the beginning of building their professional network, and we are grateful to the firm for opening their doors to our young men," said Claudia Basso, Belen’s Career Development Program Coordinator.

“We understand how essential it is for students across all backgrounds to have role models who expose them to diverse career opportunities, so they can strive to become leaders themselves one day,” remarked Lloyd Freeman, Buchanan’s Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer. “It is our hope that this program evolves across all of our offices, so that we have the chance to continue to cultivate, support and train these future trailblazers,” he added.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School, an all-boys school, Our Lady of Lourdes Academy, an all-girls school, and St. Brendan High School, a co-educational school, are three predominantly Hispanic academic intuitions located in Miami-Dade County. The idea for the one-day externship program for students was created by Jennifer Olmedo-Rodriguez, shareholder and head of Buchanan’s Miami office, and Jorge De La Hoz, an associate in the firm’s Finance section. As Miami-natives themselves, Jennifer is an alum of Lourdes and Jorge is an alum of Belen.
