Buchanan’s growing AI practice team is seeking a highly motivated and experienced associate with a strong background in electrical engineering and computer science. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2-5 years of experience in patent law, with a focus on preparing and prosecuting patent applications in technology areas such as computer science, software engineering, artificial intelligence, machine learning, network architecture, mobile communications and cloud computing.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and prosecute patent applications, including drafting claims, specifications and responses to office actions related to software and technology innovations.
  • Conduct USPTO Examiner interviews and advocate for clients during the prosecution process.
  • Review prior art searches and analyze the patentability of inventions, providing strategic insights to clients.
  • Collaborate with inventors and technical teams to develop and refine patent portfolios, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Stay informed on developments in patent law and technology trends, particularly as they pertain to computer science and electrical engineering.
  • Participate in client meetings and presentations, effectively communicating complex technical concepts and legal strategies.

 Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to practice law in at least one state.
  • A technical background, such as a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software/Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in intellectual property law, particularly in drafting and prosecuting patent applications related to artificial intelligence, machine learning, network management, mobile communications and cloud computing.
  • Registration to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is a significant advantage.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to navigate complex technical and legal information.

Buchanan’s growing AI practice team seeks a highly motivated and experienced Patent Agent with electrical engineering/computer science expertise. A minimum of two years or equivalent Patent Agent experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications is preferred, particularly in technology areas that include one or more of computer science, software engineering, artificial intelligence, machine learning, network architecture, mobile communications and cloud computing. Former (USPTO) Patent Examiner experience is welcomed as possible equivalent experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and prosecute patent applications, including drafting claims, specifications and responses to office actions in software-related technologies.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Staff Attorney with 2+ years of Trademark experience. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of trademark registration, branding, enforcement, and litigation, and will be responsible for providing comprehensive legal support to our clients across various industries. This position offers an opportunity to work in a collaborative environment while contributing to the growth and success of our trademark practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Brand Counseling, Trademark Registration and Prosecution:
  • Manage the trademark application process from inception to registration, including conducting comprehensive trademark searches and preparing and filing applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Respond to office actions and coordinate with clients to address any issues that may arise during the registration process.
  • Develop and manage global trademark portfolio strategy, including preparing and prosecuting international trademark applications, managing local counsel, and communicating with clients.
  1. Brand and Trademark Enforcement:
  • Develop and implement strategies for trademark enforcement, including monitoring and addressing potential infringement issues.
  • Draft and send cease-and-desist letters and negotiate settlement agreements, as necessary.
  • Coordinate global trademark enforcement efforts, including review of international trademark watch notices, management of international trademark opposition and cancellation matters, and oversight of global trademark litigation matters.
  1. Litigation and Opposition Support:
  • Assist in trademark litigation matters, including conducting legal research, preparing pleadings, and supporting discovery efforts.
  • Collaborate with external counsel as needed on complex litigation cases.
  1. Collaboration and Teamwork:
  • Collaborate closely with other attorneys and legal professionals within the firm to ensure a cohesive approach to trademark matters.
  • Participate in client meetings, presentations, and outreach efforts to promote the firm’s trademark services.
