Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney's Energy Section is preparing to launch an internal social and news-sharing network designed to stimulate conversation and keep attorneys up to date on industry trends.

"It's like your own personal newspaper," section co-chair James O'Toole told The Philadelphia Business Journal. "It's designed to provoke discussion because everyone gets the same stuff. It gives all 67 members of the group a general flavor of market trends just by osmosis."

The network is designed to bring multidisciplinary and geographically diverse attorneys together to build teamwork and grow business opportunities across multiple industries. It lives as a portal on the firm's intranet, InsideBuchanan.

A filtered RSS feed on energy-related topics aggregates news from sources such as The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Reuters, Bloomberg, Bizjournals.com and other trade publications. The network also features industry-specific feeds for the coal, Marcellus Shale and renewable energy fields, up-to-date data on the firm's energy clients and stock market tickers.

Attorneys have access to a crowd-sourced event calendar, news about the energy practice's members, a bulletin board for sectional discussions and updates on energy-related governmental matters from Buchanan's State Government Relations practice.

O'Toole also noted the site will feature an archive of department meetings for attorneys who could not attend.
