Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney Energy Shareholder Matthew F. Burger was featured in a Pittsburgh Business Times article that caught up with the previously named "Fast Trackers" and their careers. Burger was named to the inaugural list in 2003.

"Ten years ago, I spent the majority of my time working as a trial attorney on litigation matters throughout the country," Burger said. "Although this trial work has continued, I now spend significant time on firm management and strategic planning efforts. As a member of the firm's board of directors and chairman of a practice group and the firm's PACs, I am involved in managing the firm's operations and position the firm to take advantage of legal trends and opportunities in the marketplace. I also spend more time mentoring and training younger attorneys."

When it comes to advice for young professionals looking to advance their careers, Burger suggests first and foremost to "develop relationships with senior colleagues who are willing to train and mentor young professionals."

"Much of my success is attributable to senior members of my firm who guided and promoted my career," he explained. "Second, develop the ability to promote yourself by speaking and writing about your work."

"Third, and perhaps most importantly, distinguish yourself by your work ethic. Opportunities gravitate to those who take on additional projects and deliver results."
