Gordon, a shareholder in the Litigation and Health Care Sections of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney's Princeton office, will participate in the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education's (NJICLE) upcoming seminar "Nursing Home Abuse & Neglect: Protecting Both the Elderly and the Facility," taking place Monday, May 10, 2010, from 5-8:30 p.m. at the Law Center in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

There are nearly 350 nursing homes in New Jersey, and more than 16,000 in the U.S. More than 1.6 million Americans live in nursing homes. With the increased age of the U.S. population, more and more people are living in nursing homes and similar facilities. Unfortunately, the residents of these facilities are frequently victims of abuse and/or negligence, giving rise to increased litigation involving nursing homes and assisted living facilities. In addition, the issues presented in these cases have taken on many new forms due to their widespread nature.

The seminar will consist of an experienced panel of plaintiffs and defense attorneys who are specialists in this area of law. The panel will explore some of the hottest and most prevalent issues that arise in a nursing home/assisted living abuse case, including a review of the law, causes of action, the increased reach regarding parties named to the lawsuit, as well as ways the defense response to these allegations.

Gordon will participate in "Medicare set aside issues" at 7:45 p.m.
