Fort Myers, Fla. – March 24, 2016 – Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney Director of Litigation Michael Etkins announced that Fort Myers shareholder Joe Coleman will serve as Head of Florida Litigation. In this capacity, Coleman will help manage more than 30 litigators spread out among five Florida offices, cross-sell and integrate with other sections, and assist in identifying and recruiting lateral groups and practices to expand the firm’s share of the Florida legal market.

"As a skilled and experienced litigator as well as a Floridian for most of his life, Joe is the ideal attorney to take on this role," said Etkins. "He is well versed in the Florida legal market and the opportunities that market presents for both the Litigation Section and the firm."

Coleman practices in both state and federal trial courts. He focuses his practice on business litigation, including contract disputes, business dissolution, restrictive covenants, wrongful discharge, wage and hour disputes and commercial torts, in addition to real estate and probate litigation. Since 1995, Coleman has been a Florida Supreme Court Certified Mediator and Circuit Court Mediator.

"I am thrilled and honored to accept such a pivotal role with the firm," said Coleman. "I take the responsibility very seriously. The firm’s leadership certainly recognizes the possibilities that exist throughout the state."

In 2015, Coleman received the key to the city from Fort Myers Mayor Randy Henderson for his hard work and dedication in facilitating the sale of the former Ambassador Hotel. He has been included in Florida Super Lawyers list every year since 2007, as well as in Best Lawyers in America since 2005. Coleman holds a 5.9 out of 5.9 AV Overall Peer Rating by Martindale Hubbell.

A graduate of Georgetown University and the Florida State University College of Law, Coleman has always been an active member of the community. He is on the Board of Directors for Tiger Bay Club of Lee County, Habitat for Humanity of Lee County and the United Way of Lee, Hendry, Glades and Okeechobee Counties.  He is also the past chair of the Federal Bar Association of Southwest Florida.
