PHILADELPHIA – April 13, 2017 – Howard D. Scher, a shareholder in Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney’s litigation section in the Philadelphia office, has been re-elected as the secretary of international relations of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers (IATL) for a second one-year term. As part of his duties, Scher will work to help extend the rule of law in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania through programs in partnership with the Institute of Legal Excellence in Nairobi, Kenya and Kampala, Uganda.

Scher, an accomplished trial lawyer, has a national reputation and has achieved victories in the prosecution and defense of complex and sophisticated business litigation, including business torts, RICO, antitrust, franchise, intellectual property, securities, fraud, tax and accounting and class action. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America®, Who's Who in American Law, Chambers Partners USA and Benchmark Litigation – The Definitive Guide to the Leading Litigation Firms and Attorneys and has been consistently selected to the Pennsylvania Super Lawyers list. He also serves as president of the board of directors of the Pennsylvania Innocence Project.

The IATL limits fellowship to 500 active trial lawyers. Membership is extended to trial lawyers only on an invitation basis after an extremely careful and rigorous vetting process. The organization’s purpose is to promote reforms in the law as well as the rule of law internationally, facilitate the administration of justice and elevate the standards of integrity, honor and courtesy in the legal profession.
