Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney Labor & Employment Shareholder Jill M. Lashay will be the featured Keynote Speaker at the Lancaster SHRM’s Fall Legal Update Seminar on September 17. She will present a program, titled “Regulatory Changes, Aggressive Agency Interpretations & Increased Lawsuits…Oh My! How Employers Can Ensure Compliance with the FLSA," and will provide attendees with an update on recent and proposed changes to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) over the last two years, including regulatory changes and significant letters of “interpretation” issued by the Department of Labor.

Lashay will outline the basics of the FLSA, review historical exemptions from overtime regulations, discuss recent changes to the white collar overtime exemptions, and provide guidance to employers on how to handle the challenges these changes may present. She will also present information regarding the dramatic increase in FLSA lawsuits (over 400 percent) over the last decade and discuss what employers can do to avoid being included in these statistics.
