Governor Corbett's 24-member privatization task force convened January 17, 2012, to face a monster task: ferret out the protective parts of government.

"Efficiency in government is the overwhelming part of our job," Buchanan's CEO and panel chairman John A. "Jack" Barbour told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "The privatization is part of it, but in my mind, 80 percent is figure out how we do what government does more efficiently."

Through interviews with agency heads, the panel will try to pinpoint the strengths and weaknesses of various departments and make appropriate recommendations.

Ideally, those recommendations will lead to budget adjustments – and approval – in June.

"I wouldn't say that's an expectation," Barbour said of the potential for cost-saving, "but that's a goal."
