James M. Becker, a shareholder in the White-Collar Defense and Investigations practice at Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney's Philadelphia office, will be one of two presenters in an upcoming American Law Institute-American Bar Association telephone seminar/audio webcast. The 60-minute discussion, titled "What To Do When the Feds Come Calling?" will take place Tuesday, November 25, 2008, from 12:30 to 2:15 p.m. (EST).

The program is intended for in-house counsel, civil practitioners who practice in legal areas with a criminal backdrop, white-collar crime practitioners and business professionals who need an in-depth practical, discussion of cutting-edge enforcement issues. The following areas will be discussed:

  • False reporting on SEC Forms 10-K and 10-Q
  • Overly optimistic economic forecasts
  • Misleading statements to investors
  • Improper accounting and valuation methods, especially for mortgage-backed securities and credit default swaps
  • Excessive bonuses to executives based on financial production numbers that prove to be false.

The program will highlight investigations by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Attorney's Office.
