Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney Shareholder Matthew J. Feeley shared insight with the South Florida Business Journal on Cuba’s hospitality industry and what would need to be done if the trade embargo against Cuba is lifted. Feeley told the publication that there is a lot of potential for businesses in Cuba, but he was surprised by the decay to the infrastructure.

“It looked like a war zone in some spots,” he said. But despite the city of Havana’s current architecture status, Feeley told the publication that the city has a vibrant, privately-owned restaurant scene that shouldn’t be overlooked.

Feeley and a group of attorneys from Buchanan, including Jennifer Olmedo-Rodriguez and Jose Florez, recently joined a delegation of attorneys from the Florida Bar’s International Section on a trip to Cuba. The trip included discussions from a 20-year Cuban journalist about the shifting economic and political climate, how to navigate Cuba’s legal system, architectural tours, a music performance from Alberto Faya and more.
