Formerly with Klett, Rooney, Lieber & Schorling, Dougherty joined Buchanan Ingersoll in 2006 when the two firms merged. In addition to maintaining a nationwide practice, Dougherty manages Buchanan's team of 28 attorneys within the Trade Secrets and Restrictive Covenant Practice Group. Dougherty oversees client relations, manages workflow and utilization, provides mentoring and professional development training, and coordinates cross-disciplinary functions with attorneys in the firm's other practice groups. Dougherty brings his experience leading the Trade Secrets and Restrictive Covenant Practice Group to his new management role.

“Joe Dougherty was a clear choice for this role,” says Jack Barbour, CEO of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney. “I am confident that he will further the firm's goal of adding high caliber attorneys to the Philadelphia office while continuing to support firm wide initiatives."

Over the course of his career, Dougherty has litigated more than 600 post-employment, restrictive covenant and trade secret cases. Dougherty also handles claims involving breach of fiduciary duty, unfair competition, the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, and the Economic Espionage Act. Recently, he won multiple defense verdicts in the financial services industry in trade secret cases brought in several different jurisdictions across the nation.

"2011 is shaping up to be a very exciting year for Buchanan’s Philadelphia office,” says Joe Dougherty. “I am honored that firm leadership has shown confidence in my leadership skills and has entrusted me with this new role. I plan to work hard to exceed expectations. I look forward to collaborating with and learning from Howard Scher, who has provided great leadership and direction to the office. Together, we look forward to continuing to foster the Philadelphia office's and the Firm's success and growth.”
