How Jon Helps Clients
Jon’s practice is focused on capital markets transactions. He regularly handles credit transactions of all types: secured and unsecured; bilateral, club and syndicated; from investment grade to financially challenged borrowers.
Jon has particular expertise in trade receivables financing, ranging from factoring to complex securitization structures. He has represented banks and private credit funds as receivables purchasers (for off-balance sheet deals) or financiers (on balance sheet), as well as the seller/borrower in receivables transactions throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. Jon also represents parties in supply chain finance transactions involving accounts payable and accounts receivable.
Prior to joining Buchanan, Jon led legal support for several lines of business at PNC Bank, including large corporate banking, public finance, asset-backed finance, ABL and specialty industries. In addition, Jon served as the Chief Legal Officer of PNC Capital Markets LLC, PNC’s institutional broker/dealer. Earlier in his career, Jon led legal services for Bank of America’s Commercial Banking Division.
What Clients Can Expect
Jon’s clients appreciate his commercial approach to legal services. He focuses on the most salient issues first and is careful to explain clearly the implications of conceding or fighting for each point. Through this process, Jon’s clients are able to make informed decisions regarding their transaction and risk preferences, while being informed by, but not controlled by, the market standard for similar deals.
My unique background as a senior in-house lawyer at major financial institutions helps me deliver legal advice that is not limited to the transactional question at hand, but includes insight into regulatory treatment, sanctions concerns and other issues that law firm lawyers rarely confront. This insight is invaluable, whether representing a bank or a client seeking capital from a bank or other source.
