How John Helps Clients

John represents management in employment litigation matters before federal and state courts, as well as federal and state agencies. He has defended a wide range of employers involving the Family Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act, and the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination.

Before joining Buchanan, John worked as an associate at a law firm in Philadelphia where he defended employers on employment and civil rights matters. In his litigation practice, he drafted and argued numerous motions to dismiss and motions for summary judgment, amongst other motions.

Furthering John’s litigation depth was his clerkship with the Honorable Joseph F. Leeson of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. As a law clerk, John was responsible for one-third of all docket activity, including, but not limited to, employment law, civil rights, and commercial litigation. John's primary responsibility was to conduct research and draft opinions and orders on various motions before the court.

Lastly, in the immediate year after law school, John served as a law clerk to the Honorable Karen L. Suter of the New Jersey Superior Court, Appellate Division. There, John primarily drafted bench memoranda to brief the appellate panel before oral arguments. These issues ranged from appeals to a motion to dismiss, summary judgment, and objections on evidentiary issues.
