UPPER DARBY, PA – June 9, 2022 – Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney attorneys Eric Horst and Josh Headley recently provided pro bono assistance to U.D.T.J. (Understanding, Devotion, Take Action, and Justice). U.D.T.J, a community organization located in Upper Darby, PA, sought to enter into a fiscal sponsorship agreement to help raise funds for the organization’s second annual Upper Darby Pride Festival. After consulting with Buchanan, U.D.T.J. entered into a fiscal sponsorship agreement with Amistad Law Project, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, which allows U.D.T.J. to collect tax-deductible donations for the Pride Festival and other community events, with Amistad acting as its fiscal sponsor.

As a result of the hard work and dedication of U.D.T.J. board members and volunteers, as well as the funds U.D.T.J. has been able to raise through the fiscal sponsorship agreement, the group anticipates this year’s Upper Darby Pride Festival to double in size from last year’s inaugural event. U.D.T.J. is anticipating approximately 90 vendors and 20 performers to participate in the free event, which will run from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2022.

U.D.T.J.’s goal with the Pride Festival is to create a space for the LGBTQ+ community in Upper Darby Township and Delaware County more broadly. While the city of Philadelphia is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its first Pride events, the same resources have not typically been available to the LGBTQ+ community in the suburbs. Next year, U.D.T.J. hopes to further expand the Pride Festival beyond Upper Darby Township to cover the entirety of Delaware County.

“We’re thrilled to have represented U.D.T.J. in expanding the Upper Darby Pride Festival”, said Lloyd Freeman, Buchanan’s Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer. “This opportunity further reinforces our firm’s support for the LGBTQ community and falls in line with our commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion overall in our communities.”
