Washington DC / Alexandria, VA – September 19, 2013 –Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney announced today that Matthew L. Schneider will co-chair the firm’s Intellectual Property Section. Bassam N. Ibrahim and Michael L. Dever will continue to co-lead the section with Schneider.

Buchanan’s collaborative intellectual property team was recognized as the Best USA Firm for IP Patent Prosecution by the International Legal Alliance Summit and Awards. The firm’s IP Section is also recognized in Chambers USA, IAM Patent 1000 and US News & World Report’s Best Law Firms 2013.

Matthew L. Schneider
serves on the firm’s Board of Directors. He focuses his practice on patent law matters and client counseling involving patentability studies, patent procurement and patent infringement and validity investigations. He has technical experience in surgical devices, medical appliances and products, packaging machines and processes, automotive products, vehicle brake systems and components and automotive and architectural glass products and manufacturing processes.

Prior to joining Buchanan, Schneider was a partner with Burns, Doane, Swecker & Mathis, one of the oldest and largest law firms in the United States focusing exclusively on intellectual property, which merged with Buchanan in 2005. He is a former patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, with responsibility for evaluating the patentability of inventions involving various mechanical technologies including sporting equipment and related accessories, surgical devices and other medical equipment.

Schneider was named the exclusive winner of the 2013 Lexology Client Choice Award for Patents in Virginia, a distinction given to just 222 individuals in the U.S. and Canada.
