FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – August 6, 2020 – Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney welcomes Jerry Fedele as of counsel to its Healthcare section. Fedele, a healthcare executive and lawyer who served as president and CEO of Boca Raton Regional Hospital from 2008 to 2019, will work with Buchanan’s healthcare and healthcare-related clients to help bridge the gap between their legal and operational needs. Additionally, Fedele will work with Buchanan’s attorneys to continue the firm’s expansion of broad spectrum of healthcare services in South Florida.

“Jerry has had a tremendous career as a respected attorney and healthcare executive. His accomplishments and experience working with major health systems both in South Florida and Pennsylvania perfectly align with Buchanan’s healthcare practice and growth strategy. We know he will be a valuable resource to our current and future clients,” said Dale S. Webber, shareholder and chair of Buchanan’s Healthcare section. “

“It is very rare for general counsels to become CEOs and I’ve had that opportunity twice. As I continue to assist healthcare systems, I’m thrilled to join Buchanan and work with clients to develop cost-effective community-focused solutions. I hope to bring my results-oriented approach to their healthcare challenges – many of which are still to come in our fast-changing landscape,” added Fedele.

Fedele began his career as a corporate lawyer and also served as counsel for Bayer Corporation at its Pittsburgh-based U.S. headquarters. He subsequently became general counsel for the West Penn Allegheny Health System (WPAHS), one of Pittsburgh's leading healthcare providers. In that role, Fedele led the growth of the health system from one to six hospitals and $400 million to $1.5 billion revenue in the 1990s. Fedele became WPAHS’s CEO in 2003 and served until 2007, during which the system grew and experienced organizational profitability. In 2008, he took charge of the Boca Raton Regional Hospital and transformed and expanded its services, introduced graduate medical education, and grew community confidence and revenue from $350 million to $550 million as he led the transformation of the hospital to an academic tertiary regional referral medical center. The U.S. News & World Report ranked it the number one hospital in Palm Beach County.

Fedele holds the positions of Executive in Residence and faculty member at Lynn University and serves on the Board of Visitors at the University of Pittsburgh Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business and College of Business Administration. He earned a bachelor’s in mathematics and a master’s in business administration from the University of Pittsburgh, and a juris doctor from Duquesne University, where he was class valedictorian.

Fedele is a recipient of numerous awards, including the Distinguished Alumni from the University of Pittsburgh Katz Graduate School of Business; Palm Beach County Ultimate CEO Award from the South Florida Business Journal; and Business Leader of the Year Award from Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce.
