Jay F. Glunt, a shareholder in the Labor and Employment Section of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney's Pittsburgh office, will participate in an upcoming teleconference/webinar, sponsored by Strafford. "Employee Severance Agreements: Latest Guidance for Employment Counsel" will take place Tuesday, May 11, 2010, from 1-2:30 p.m.

The CLE webinar will prepare employment counsel to craft enforceable severance agreements. The panel will examine the 2009 EEOC guidance and current case law impacting employee severance and offer best practices for negotiating release and pay provisions.

The panel will review these and other key questions:

  • How has the EEOC's July 2009 guidance on discrimination waivers in employee severance agreements impacted how severance packages are negotiated?
  • What are the lessons of key federal appeals courts' decisions on the enforceability of employee releases involving waiver of federal employment law and civil rights claims?
  • What are the best practices to develop and negotiate enforceable severance agreements?
Specifically, Jay will present on the requirements for compliance with state and federal laws when releasing employment claims, as well as will provide practical suggestions on how to deter challenges to the validity of the release.
