Matthew L. Schneider focuses his practice on patent law matters and client counseling involving patentability studies, patent procurement and patent infringement and validity investigations. His technical experience includes mechanical and electro-mechanical technologies.
Matthew's technical experience includes surgical devices, medical appliances and products, packaging machines and processes, computer hardware, bearings, seal arrangements, glass bending, automotive brake systems and components, article transporting devices, earth retaining and stabilization systems, compressors, drilling equipment, textile manufacturing, weighing scales and wheelchairs.
In 2018, he was recognized on IAM’s Patent 1000 list, the best-in-class listing of patent professionals.
He was a partner with Burns, Doane, Swecker & Mathis, one of the oldest and largest law firms in the United States focusing exclusively on intellectual property, until its lawyers and other professionals joined Buchanan in 2005. He is a former patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, with responsibility for evaluating the patentability of inventions involving various mechanical technologies including sporting equipment and related accessories, surgical devices and other medical equipment.
Matthew was named the exclusive winner of the 2013 Lexology Client Choice Award for Patents in Virginia, a distinction given to just 222 individuals in the U.S. and Canada.
