Sara’s most valuable contribution to Buchanan is her broad and varied experience in the field of Trusts, Estates and Tax. She has worked in trusts and estates since 1997 and with attorneys in New York, Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, the District of Columbia and Maryland. After earning her paralegal certification, she began working as a paralegal at a full-service law firm in Charlotte and went on to work in trusts and estates departments as a paralegal, fiduciary accountant, and private client specialist at big law firms in New York City.
Sara’s experience in the Probate Courts of Virginia, Maryland and Florida and Surrogate’s Court of New York helps her to support Buchanan attorneys with the unique requirements of the various county courts and states. Sara works with high net worth estates and has prepared the required tax returns, including estate tax, gift tax and income tax (706s, 709s, 1041s and 990PFs). Her familiarity with financial statements and tax returns gives her the ability to assist attorneys with pre-death estate analysis, fiduciary accountings and calculations in estate and trust administration.
Sara’s musical background has helped her throughout her paralegal career. Her focus, persistence and flexibility are valued by personal representatives and attorneys alike. Sara’s experience has included working with beneficiaries, bankers, brokers, attorneys and appraisers in the U.S., Europe and Australia.
As an active member in her community, Sara has enjoyed singing with choruses in New York, Florida and North Carolina and internationally in Russia, Latvia, Estonia, Germany, France, Wales, Ireland and England and working as a volunteer at community runs, marathons or 5Ks. In her free time, she enjoys playing classical piano and face-timing or talking with her daughter in Wyoming and her daughter and new grandson in Colorado.
