How Sara Helps Clients
Sara E. Hoffman Ivill is an associate in the Labor and Employment Section of the firm’s Philadelphia office.
Sara's legal practice focuses on representing employers in a variety of employment matters, including gender, race, national origin, religion, disability, sexual orientation and age discrimination claims, sexual harassment and hostile work environment matters, whistleblowers claims, wrongful discharge, wage and hour matters, business torts, and other state law and constitutional claims. Sara has represented both public and private employers in matters before various administrative agencies and in state and federal courts throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey. She also has experience litigating collective and class action wage and hour suits under the Fair Labor Standards Act and state wage and hour laws.
Sara also counsels employers on matters such as employment policies and handbooks, employment contracts, workplace investigations, employee training, discipline, accommodations and other employment issues.
While attending Villanova University School of Law, Sara was elected to the Vice President and Treasurer positions of the Student Bar Association. Sara was also selected to serve as a co-chairperson for the 3L Legacy program, as a representative on the Dean’s Student Advisory Committee, and as Business & Special Projects Editor for the Villanova Environmental Law Journal. The Law Journal published her case note, “A Greenhouse Gas Chain Reaction: The D.C. Circuit Warms Up the EPA’s Regulatory Authority in Coalition for Responsible Regulation v. EPA.” As a certified legal intern in the Villanova Civil Justice Clinic, Sara represented clients in a variety of civil matters. She previously served as a law clerk for the Pennsylvania Attorney General Bureau of Consumer Protection and as a law clerk for the labor law group of a professional sports league in New York City. Prior to joining Buchanan, Sara was an associate in the labor and employment group at a defense firm in Philadelphia.
Prior to law school, Sara graduated with honors from Villanova University and worked in the financial services industry as a Certified Public Accountant in Philadelphia. In this role, she worked as a Senior Audit Assistant with the Audit & Enterprise Risk Services group, specializing in audits of investment management clients.

Outside the Office
In her spare time, Sara enjoys traveling, trying out new Philadelphia restaurants and following Philadelphia sports, especially Villanova basketball.
