Richard L. Fox concentrates his practice in the areas of estate planning, trusts and estates, philanthropic planning, and tax-exempt organizations, specializing in tax issues in these areas. His practice area also include creating private foundations, public charities and a multitude of planned giving vehicles, advising on nonprofit tax and corporate governance, transfers of family wealth and succession planning, and individual tax issues. Before joining Buchanan, Richard spent more than two decades as a tax partner at a Philadelphia-based law firm, where he was also the head of its philanthropic and nonprofit practice group.
Richard is a frequent speaker and author on topics related to estate planning, philanthropy and tax-exempt entities. He is also the author of the treatise, Charitable Giving: Taxation, Planning and Strategies, a Warren, Gorham and Lamont publication, writes a national bulletin on philanthropy and nonprofit issues and is a regular contributor to the Estate Planning Journal and the Journal of Taxation.
Additionally, Richard is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, a regularly contributing author for the Estate Planning Journal and Bloomberg Tax and a commentator for Leimberg Information Services, Inc. He is also a member of the American College Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy Board of Advisors, where he previously headed the Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy Program as the Sallie B. and William B. Wallace Chair in Philanthropy.
Richard has been named by Worth magazine as one of the Top 100 Attorneys in the country representing affluent families and individuals in the areas of estate planning, private foundations and philanthropy. He has been consistently selected to the Pennsylvania Super Lawyers list since 2007 and to The Best Lawyers in America© since 2019.
