Is there a transaction that you believe put you on the map?

There are two. In 2002, I was a second-year associate trying to figure out my head from my tail. I'd finished a transaction and a partner came over and asked if I had time for a deal — of course, you say yes — and it was the IPO for Dick's Sporting Goods. I'd not done a lot of securities work at that time, but I ended up absolutely falling in love with it. From that point, I tried to steer my career into public company and securities law work. Dick's is still a client of mine. I really enjoy that line of work. I'd say the most recent I'm proud of is representing Consol Energy when they separated their coal and natural gas businesses. I served as lead outside counsel for that transaction. It was ginormous. We had four or five other law firms with very specific roles involved, but Buchanan — and I, in particular — ran point.
