The United States Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously approved Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney Litigation Shareholder Mark R. Hornak for district judge for the Western District of Pennsylvania, sending his nomination on to the Senate for a final confirmation vote.

As the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported in a July 21, 2011 article, Hornak was first nominated last year by President Obama, and endorsed by Senators Pat Toomey and Bob Casey.

Following Thursday's Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing, Senator Casey was "pleased that these well-qualified candidates can now come before the Senate for a confirmation vote."

Both senators spoke of Pennsylvania's shortage of U.S. district court judges, with Senator Toomey voicing his support for the nominees he is "confident…will live up to these standards" of "unquestioned honesty and integrity."
