How Katie Helps Clients

Katie represents employers in significant class and collective action employment lawsuits. Katie’s experience spans wage and hour and employment discrimination across healthcare, construction, communications, financial, and energy industries, among others. Katie’s recent class and collective action experience includes enforcing class and collective action waivers and arbitration agreements and defeating motions to conditionally certify a collective action.

In addition to representing employers in class and collective action litigation, Katie also represents employers in individual claims related to Title VII, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Americans With Disabilities Act, and state and local anti-discrimination and equal pay statutes. Katie’s recent experience includes helping secure summary judgment on behalf of a healthcare provider in an individual discrimination claim alleging violations of Title VII and the Family and Medical Leave Act, among others.

Katie’s practice also focuses on advising employers with respect to compliance measures that reduce employment-related issues. Among other things, Katie has assisted with investigations and other compliance reviews as well as updating handbooks, policies, and manuals.  Recently, Katie has counseled employers related to paid sick and family leave statutes enacted in numerous states and cities around the country  She also frequently counsel employers regarding their pay practices.

Katie’s employment practice is strengthened by the nearly ten years that she spent as a general litigator working primarily for companies engaged in construction, energy, and technology.  Through that experience, Katie was able to develop her litigation skills, particularly her oral advocacy skills, in defending companies in significant legal disputes.  As a general litigator, Katie tried cases in state and federal court and participated in many others that were favorably resolved prior to trial due to effective motions practice.
