David Fernandez counsels clients on a wide variety of capital markets, securities and leveraged finance, tax-exempt and taxable bond finance transactions. Prior to joining Buchanan, he served as a Senior Assistant General Counsel for the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York, one of the nation’s leading issuers of tax-exempt debt.

David has served as counsel in a number of capacities for these financings, including bond, underwriter’s and Trustee counsel. His work has been either with or before such issuers as the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York, the New York City Municipal Water Finance Authority, New York City Housing Development Corporation and the New York State Housing Finance Authority, as well as various local development corporations.

David’s corporate transactional practice has encompassed national and international matters in the United States, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Australia, Belgium, Canada, England, France and Korea. He holds dual U.S. and Spanish citizenship, and speaks Spanish fluently.

Outside the Office

David’s community service extends well beyond the office. He currently serves as the Athletic Director for Dominican Academy, a Catholic Girls High School in New York City. He also coaches cross-country track and youth soccer. As one of his true passions, David serves as a Lieutenant in the Floral Park Volunteer Fire Department, where he has been an active firefighter since 1999. David is an avid runner who has completed a number of half marathons, including the NYC and Brooklyn Half Marathons.
