PITTSBURGH – March 4, 2021 – Women’s History Month serves as a celebration of the many achievements women have made throughout our history. It is also a reminder for all of us to continue to champion the successes of the women around us and encourage their voices to be heard. This year, the firm is offering a number of ways to join in on the celebration.

  1. As our way of honoring the life and legacy of the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, we are hosting an essay contest for teen girls with the prompt, “How did Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg inspire me?” The firm is partnering with the Women and Girls Foundation of Southwestern Pennsylvania for this contest. All essayists will be participants in the Foundation’s GirlGov program, an initiative for girls to learn about civics, government, philanthropy, women’s history and leadership. The winners will receive a monetary prize.
  2. Our Miami office, which is predominately female run, is hosting a virtual event, “Women in the Lead: A Roundtable Discussion with Buchanan’s Women Leaders” on March 30th. This event is open to all, and will discuss how we can continue to work to change the stigma associated with gender equity in law firms.
  3. We will also be highlighting the record-breaking year for women in politics. First, we will host a virtual CLE on March 25th titled, “Women Win the Vote: A Fireside Chat with Rep. Joanna McClinton,” Pennsylvania’s House Minority Leader and the first black woman to ever hold a party leadership position in the state legislature. We will also debut our newest firm podcast, “Dimensions of Diversity,” with an interview featuring two thought leaders discussing the cultural significance of Vice President Kamala Harris’ victory.
  4. Throughout the month of March, we will also be sharing short vignettes on our podcast and social media platforms entitled, “Women in the C-Suite.” These short videos and talks will feature notable women at the highest levels of their organizations talking about leadership, adversity and more.
