PITTSBURGH – October 22, 2015 – Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney is pleased to announce that Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer Susan A. Yohe has been recognized by the National Diversity Council with its 2015 “Leadership Excellence in Law” award. She was honored today at the organization’s 2015 Pittsburgh Diversity and Leadership Conference.

The Leadership Excellence Awards are presented to individuals who receive a high degree of peer recognition for their accomplishments, exemplify a commitment to equality and integrity in their work and are committed to community service.

Yohe is responsible for assisting Buchanan in attracting, recruiting, retaining, nurturing, engaging and advancing diverse talent She came to this role after practicing law for over 30 years and serving as the chairperson of the firm’s Diversity Committee for five years. She leads a variety of diversity initiatives, including “Future Force: A Lecture Series for Diverse Legal Professionals,” which brings nationally recognized diverse lawyers to Pittsburgh to address diverse lawyers in Pittsburgh’s corporate law firms and law departments. In the past, she has helped launched programs such as “Tips from the Top,” – a program linking associates preparing for promotion to counsel with firm leaders in ongoing mentorship circles.

Every two years, she plans the firm’s Attorney of Color retreat, including training modules and client panels. She is currently leading the formulation of a three-year strategic plan for diversity for the firm.

Yohe is active in the community, currently serving on the Advisory Board of Chatham University’s Center for Women in Politics and the board of the Society for Contemporary Craft. She has previously served on the board of the August Wilson Center for African-American Culture.
She earned her law degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and her bachelor’s degree from Penn State University.
