The conviction of five former Bernie Madoff associates on Monday sent a clear message to financial fraud enablers reported Law360 in a recent article titled, “Madoff Aide Verdict a Reminder to Fess Up Early.”

Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney Shareholder Stuart Slotnick told Law360 that defendants may now rethink declining a plea deal when the government offers one because of their great track record of winning cases. Defendants may want to start taking deals instead of taking chances against the government he says.

“The tremendous record of conviction after trial by the government encourages defendants and potential defendants to come forward and cooperate with the government so they can get leniency and save themselves,” Slotnick told the publication.
