Scott Richards focuses his practice on creditors’ rights, admiralty/maritime matters, complex commercial litigation, construction litigation, health law litigation and class action litigation, in state and federal courts.
Scott has handled the defense of creditors for purported violations of both state and federal consumer protection statutes, including the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and the Florida Consumer Collection Practices Act.
Scott's admiralty practice has allowed him to work on maritime lien foreclosures, salvage, vessel arrests, OPA issues, vessel sales, stowaway issues and vessel insurance disputes.
With a civil engineering background and licensure, he spent several years working as a geotechnical engineering lab technician and a geotechnical staff engineer, thereby becoming intimately familiar with the practice and developing an understanding that only comes through experience. In applying this experience, he is able to effectively communicate with construction industry and design professionals, and he has handled several construction litigation matters.
Additionally, Scott practices healthcare litigation representing hospitals and insurers in matters involving consumer complaints and the applicability of policies.
Since 2013, Scott has been named to the Florida Super Lawyers Rising Stars list.
