S. Maki Uchiyama focuses her practice on matters pertaining to real estate and financial services. She has particular experience in the acquisition, development and financing of office, retail and industrial properties, structured credit financing, and foreclosures and distressed loans.
Prior to joining Buchanan, Maki served as vice president for the second-largest special servicer of distressed CMBS loans, where she headed the team responsible for compliance and reporting requirements.

Maki previously represented real estate companies, lenders and investors as a real estate associate in the Washington, D.C. office of Goulston & Storrs, and also represented institutional lenders and non-bank lenders as a banking and finance associate in the Boston, MA office of Brown Rudnick. Prior to pursuing her law degree, Maki was a program associate with The Japan Foundation, where she was responsible for the supervising the financing and administration of grants and institutional support programs for Japanese Studies programs in the United States.

Maki is conversant in Japanese.
