On Wednesday, November 4, 2009, Matthew H. Meade — a shareholder in the Litigation Section and co-chair of the Data Security and Privacy Group at Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney's Pittsburgh office — will participate in "Symposium: Strategies for Coming Out on Top of the Economy," presented by the ALCA, a Division of The Flagship Group, Inc. The CLE-approved course will take place from 3 to 6 p.m., followed by a reception and networking from 6 to 7 p.m., at the Rivers Club in the One Oxford Centre building in Pittsburgh.

The symposium is for all lawyers, managing partners, independent practice owners, consultants and legal business leaders who are interested in learning strategies, skills and tactics to create new business opportunities and expand existing opportunities in this economy and for the years to come.

Meade will join fellow industry professionals to participate in the course's second panel, "It is Really All About the Sale …," which will address:

  • Understanding changing client needs.
  • How have clients' needs changed? How to refine your offerings and services to meet those needs. What do clients expect? Are these changes permanent?
  • What's hot and what's not in today's practice of law? New thinking and ways of doing business to ensure long-term success.
  • How in-house legal departments are managing their work. What do you outsource and what do you keep in-house?
  • New practice areas? What skills and areas of expertise are in demand today and for years to come?
  • Is the billable hour gone?
  • Alternative fee arrangements — what are they and how do they work? RFPs — are they required?
  • How to win business in a down economy. Strategies and techniques examined in detail.
