TAMPA, Fla. – May 18, 2017 – Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney is proud to announce that Mitchell I. Horowitz, shareholder in the tax section in the firm’s Tampa office, has been elected as a Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel. The Fellows of the American College of Tax Counsel constitute an extraordinary group of America’s very best tax attorneys. Fellows must be nominated for the honor of membership and must then undergo a rigorous screening process prior to being elected as Fellows of the College.

Horowitz, who is also the vice chair of the Court Procedure and Practice Committee of the ABA Tax Section, represents individuals, tax exempt entities and business organizations, focusing his practice in the area of civil tax controversies with the IRS and Florida Department of Revenue, including U. S. Tax Court, federal district court and state court litigation, transactional and business law representation.

“Being a Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel is a tremendous honor. I have spent my career emulating the tenets espoused by the organization and now I have the opportunity to work with other like-minded tax attorneys to help improve our nation’s tax code,” noted Horowitz.

The College provides a venue for these outstanding lawyers to work together to promote sound tax policy and to engage in thoughtful discussion with the government about matters affecting the tax system. As part of its mission to improve the tax system, the College provides recommendations to Congress and the Internal Revenue Service for improving the nation’s tax laws and the way that they are interpreted and administered, and it provides input into the judicial system by filing “friend of the court” briefs in selected tax cases.

Horowitz has been selected to The Best Lawyers in America® and the Florida Super Lawyers lists since 2006 and as "Lawyer of the Year" in 2017. He has also been recognized as a leading tax lawyer in Florida by Chambers USA.
