MARYELLEN MADDEN TO TEACH DUKE LAW SESSION ON HISTORY OF TRANSGENDER ISSUES

On September 20, 2017, Maryellen Madden will teach a session on the history of transgender issues at her alma mater Duke University School of Law. Students will learn about several topics related to transgender issues such as vocabulary, the law, race, media reporting, cultural awareness and acceptance, health-related issues, relations with allies, and transgender organizations. When she is not practicing law at Buchanan, Maryellen is active in the community and often collaborates with transgender organizations that foster diversity, develop leadership, provide educational and financial opportunities, and promote positive change. She is a board member of the William Way LGBT Community Center, involved with the Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund, and a TransWork Advisory group member with the Independence Business Alliance.
