Howard D. Scher, Shareholder in Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney’s Litigation Section, recently authored a six-part series about litigation for Inside Counsel Magazine online. In December, insights from those articles were included in both the online and print edition of Inside Counsel Magazine, along with new quotes from Scher. The article, “How to Succeed in the Courtroom,” highlighted some of the biggest courtroom victories of the year, and it contributed these successes to the distinct skillsets of the litigators involved.

“In-house lawyers have to make their lawyers realize that the case matters to them,” Scher said. “… Lawyers like to know that what they’re doing makes a difference.”

Scher continued, “You want a client who explains what an appropriate manifestation of their business personality is” in order for outside counsel to be able to advance the company’s cause.

The article also drew on insights from Scher’s article about the top characteristics of successful litigators, which were credibility, civility, confidence, curiosity and competitive spirit.
