Candidates should have a Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Physics or other comparable technical degree, solid academic background, strong written and oral communication skills, and demonstrated ability to analyze technical/legal issues and apply learned concepts to new situations. Patent prosecution experience will be favorably viewed when combined with other noted qualities. Responsibilities will involve, though not be limited to, drafting patent applications, prosecuting pending patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, client interaction and counseling, evaluating patents, drafting opinion letters, and contributing to ongoing firm and practice group initiatives. Patent Associate/Patent Agent - Electrical/Computer Science (Alexandria)

Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC's Intellectual Property group is actively seeking an Electrical patent associate or agent with a minimum of 2 years of experience and a degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science. Candidates should have significant patent application drafting experience, and preferably with respect to computer implemented inventions. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, drafting patent applications, prosecution related documents, post grant review documents and opinion letters, as well as patent portfolio analysis and litigation support. Responsibilities may also include supervising patent agents and more junior associates. Candidates must be registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and admitted in Virginia preferred.
