Kathleen A. Ryan is a staff attorney in the firm’s Energy Section in the Harrisburg office, advising clients in both energy and public utility transactional matters. Katie works with the title group in the firm’s Pittsburgh office, drafting title opinions for multiple oil and gas parcels in different states. Katie also works closely with the utility law practice in Harrisburg, where she litigates customer complaints, assists clients in obtaining certificates of public convenience to provide transportation services, works on issues related to transportation network companies, researches and writes memorandums on various energy and utility law issues, and provides research for various due diligence projects.
Before joining Buchanan, Katie was an associate attorney at Chesapeake Energy, one of the nation’s largest producers of natural gas. While there, she gained experience researching and clearing title for land parcels in the Marcellus Shale region and provided advice on corporate legal issues such as delinquent taxes and property liens, mortgage foreclosures and intestacy problems. In her role, she also analyzed mineral ownership rights in and helped to decide whether the company should bring suit to quiet title.
Her experience also includes serving as a judicial clerk at the New York Supreme Court and spending two summers as a press intern for the New York State Executive Chamber in their Communications office.
Katie earned her J.D. from the Dickinson School of Law at The Pennsylvania State University in 2012 and graduated as a member of the Woolsack Honor Society.
