The new Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney office in Charlotte, N.C., is part of the firm’s strategy to strength its presence in the Southeast market, explained Chief Executive Officer John A. “Jack” Barbour to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

At the helm of Buchanan’s Carolina outpost is Michael Wielechowski, a Pittsburgh native and former in-house counsel for PNC.

“The opportunity with Mike came along and it fit in with our strategic plan,” Barbour said.

As noted, the Charlotte office is up and running, and will move into more permanent space later this month. Joining Wielechowski are Nathan C. Fuller and Kerri DeRuyter. All three attorneys specialize in financial law.

Charlotte is a key market for the banking and financial industries, and Buchanan looks forward to establishing its practice there by “aggressively grow[ing] with commercial lawyers of high caliber.”
