Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney's Legislative Leaders Panel at the Marcellus Shale Coalition's 2011 Shale Gas Conference was covered in recent articles in AOL Energy, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, The Scranton Times Tribune and other industry media.

The Legislative Leaders Panel featured Pennsylvania State Representatives Michael Hanna (D-76th District) and Sandra Major (R-111th District, House Majority Caucus Chair), and State Senator Dominic Pileggi (R-9th District, Senate Majority Leader).

The panel provided attendees a bipartisan and cross-Legislature view of the booming shale industry. All three panelists' constituencies, like the majority of the state, sit atop the Marcellus formation, and Rep. Major's 111th District contains parts of Susquehanna, Wayne and Wyoming Counties — some of Northeastern Pennsylvania's most active drilling areas.

Topics discussed by the panel included:

  • Pooling
  • Local versus state control
  • Model ordinances
  • Severance tax
  • Impact fees
  • Legislating safety

Buchanan's panel was part of the two-day conference, which attracted more than 1,600 attendees and featured federal and state officials and industry insiders discussing the development of the shale gas industry across the Marcellus Shale region.
