Buchanan Shareholder Barry I. Slotnick was quoted in a CNBC article on a new law that will take effect in January in New York City. The new law establishes a formula for maintenance, or alimony payments.

According the to article, beginning January 25, "the income that can be considered for determining spousal support will be capped at $175,000, down from $524,000."

"I think it personally favors the monied party," Slotnick told the publication. "If you are the monied party you want to stall the filing, if you are the non-monied party, you want to go ahead and get it filed."
