NEW YORK – October 23, 2017 – Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney is growing a differentiating advisory service that closely links patent and product development strategies through the addition of Marc Adler. Formerly assistant general counsel and chief IP counsel at Rohm & Haas - a specialty chemicals manufacturer acquired by Dow Chemical - Adler helps businesses address competitive and market forces through legal actions, business partnerships and effective patent and trade secret management.

Adler spent more than 25 years at Rohm & Haas and subsequently his own consulting company, advising on effective patent strategies, IP rights, licensing and more. “Marc has the keen insight of a former in-house counsel and a unique way of prioritizing and managing patents in the context of advancing a company’s overall objectives. We are thrilled to offer his insights and perspective to current and future clients,” said Philip L. Hirschhorn, co-chair of Buchanan’s IP section and head of the New York office.

“With extensive legal and business experience, Marc has earned the respect and trust of company c-suite and board leadership as he helps convert patent investment and management from a business cost into a revenue opportunity,” added Todd R. Walters, chair of Buchanan’s Patent Office Litigation practice group.

“I am excited to join Buchanan’s stellar IP team of accomplished attorneys who bring differentiating value to clients,” noted Adler.

Adler received his B.S in Chemical Engineering from the City College of New York; his M.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Florida; and his J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law. He has served as the president of the Intellectual Property Owners Association and as president of the Association of Corporate Patent Counsel and is a frequent speaker and moderator on trending IP topics critical to in-house counsel that intersect with execution of business strategy.
