New York and Philadelphia – June 3, 2014 – Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC announced today the addition of Shareholder David J. Fernández to the firm’s Financial Services Section. Licensed to practice in New York, Pennsylvania and Washington D.C., Fernández will have offices in both New York and Philadelphia and will provide counsel to clients throughout the region.

“David’s extensive background on many facets of public finance transactions, his strong reputation with some of the firm’s best banking clients, and his multi-state presence, will further strengthen our Public Finance team,” said Rebecca Lando, chair of the firm’s Financial Services practice.
Fernández concentrates his practice on counseling clients on a wide variety of capital markets, securities and leveraged finance, tax-exempt and taxable bond finance transactions and municipal default workouts.

“Buchanan has a national Financial Services practice with a reputation for being progressive,” said Fernández. “With an uptick of public finance deals on the horizon, I seized the opportunity to join a firm that is committed to growth in this field and has a national reputation on both the transactional and workout sides of my practice.”

There are more than 120 attorneys and legal professionals in Buchanan’s Financial Services practice, making up more than a fifth of the firm’s overall lawyer headcount. The firm counts among its clients some of the largest financial institutions in the country and typically serves as counsel to the issuers, underwriters, trustees, letter of credit providers and borrowers in hundreds of public finance transactions annually.

Prior to joining Buchanan, Fernández was most recently a partner with the Wall Street firm Carter, Ledyard & Milburn LLP, where his practice focused on corporate trust as well as public finance. He has previously served as a Senior Assistant General Counsel for the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York, one of the nation’s leading issuers of tax-exempt debt, as well as bond counsel for a wide variety of issuers, including the New York City Municipal Water Finance Authority, New York City Housing Development Corporation and New York State Housing Finance Authority.

Fernández earned his J.D. from Albany Law School of Union University and his A.B. from Colgate University and has been listed as a New York Metro Region Super Lawyer since 2008.
