Buchanan Adds Veteran Commercial Finance Attorney William Basil to its Banking and Real Estate Practices in Washington D.C.

Washington, D.C., March 2, 2011 — Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC adds another big hitter to its roster of banking lawyers with the addition of shareholder William C. Basil, who joins the firm's Financial Services and Real Estate practices in Washington D.C. Previously a partner at Arent Fox LLP, and formerly Deputy General Counsel of Riggs Bank, Basil concentrates his practice in banking, commercial real estate lending and public finance.

"Buchanan's background in handling complex matters for financial institutions, real estate clients and public finance entities, combined with its diverse range of capabilities attracted me to the firm," states Basil. "I felt this would be a great move for me as well as my clients."

Buchanan represents the majority of the nation's leading banks and has particular depth in real estate and public finance. Over the past year, the firm has added to its Financial Services and Real Estate practices 12 attorneys in five offices. 

About Basil

William C. Basil has extensive experience in commercial and real estate lending and has represented banks and other financial institutions in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia. He has worked on acquisition, land development and construction financings and refinancings, including syndicated and portfolio loans, in connection with residential and commercial projects, including hotels, retail centers, office buildings condominiums and single family subdivisions. In association with these projects, Basil has assisted clients with workout and restructuring activities and worked to establish policies and procedures to deal with such activities.

Basil has significant experience with virtually every asset of bond financing having previously served as bond counsel, underwriter's counsel, borrower's counsel, trustee's counsel and credit enhancer's counsel for tax-exempt and taxable financings.

Basil received his law degree from Emory University School of Law, and his B.S. degree, cum laude, from Union College.
