New York, NY, May 21, 2012 — Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC announced today the addition of shareholder Matthew Cohen to its Energy Section. Cohen was a partner in the corporate practice group of a prominent Texas-based law firm. In the past two years, Buchanan has added more than 20 attorneys to its roster of 80+ energy-focused professionals.
"We're continuing to handle a heavy volume of transactional work, and we're seeing a spike in private equity, financing and pipeline and refinery infrastructure projects," explained Sean W. Moran, co-chair of the firm's Energy Section. "We're probably busier right now than we've ever been, so we continue to bring on experienced laterals to handle the workload and add to our capabilities," he added.
Cohen, who is experienced in all facets of capital formation, has handled domestic and cross-border deals for businesses in the oil and gas as well as metals and mining industries. In recent years, Cohen was instrumental in the formation and development of three publicly traded E&P companies, raising an aggregate of $1 billion for them through a variety of capital transactions.
"Buchanan's strong corporate practice combined with its deep energy focus made this a perfect move for me," Cohen stated.
One of the largest and most established energy practices in the region, Buchanan has represented clients in Marcellus and Utica-related transactions with an aggregate value of $16 billion in the past three years alone. The integrated team includes more than 80 lawyers and professionals in the areas of corporate finance, environmental, regulatory, tax, litigation, labor and employment, intellectual property, real estate and government relations.
Matthew Cohen's experience includes mergers and acquisitions, private offerings of debt and equity securities, public offerings, SEC reporting and securities law compliance, and structuring private equity investments.
Cohen received his J.D. degree from Brooklyn Law School and his B.A. degree from Emory University. He is admitted to practice in New York.
